February 2016 CAC Update
There were 2 LCD policies presented for discussion that may impact PA Rheumatologists:

DL34914: Assays for Vitamins and Metabolic Function

The policy has limits on the frequency of ordering and the ICD 10 codes that are required to determine medical necessity.  For example the following codes that may be ordered by Rheumatologists:
  • 82306- 25OH Vit D- up to 3times/year
  • 82652- 1, 25 OH Vit D- up to 2 times/year
  • 83746- Folic acid- up to 3 times/year
  • 82607- B-12- up to 3 times/year

DL35409: Non-Vascular Extremity Ultrasound

This policy is important to all PA Rheumatologists who are preforming and billing for in-office musculoskeletal Ultrasounds. I would recommend anyone who does these procedures to review the policy in detail online at the above URL. The policy is too detailed to discuss in this short update but it contains information on training requirements, documentation of procedure, frequency limits of procedures, CPT and ICD 10 codes.
